چکیده
Indoor and outdoor pollution has become a worldwide problem; it impacts both the environment human health. Research-driven air assessment studies were done in some of larger South African cities like Cape Town Pretoria, but almost none Free State province. The purpose present study was to determine PM2.5 levels its chemical components over period more than one year capital, Bloemfontein. Particulate matter collected on PFTE filters, which then analysed gravimetrically, by smoke stain reflectometry X-ray fluorescence. average concentration for 11 μg/m3, exceeded World Health Organization (WHO) annual guideline limit (5 μg/m3), not National Ambient Air Quality Standard (20 μg/m3). daily WHO (15 μg/m3) 28 days, standard (40 soot 1.2 μg/m3. five most abundant trace elements detected filter samples K, Ca, Si, S Fe.

Atmospheric lead pollution in fine particulate matter in Shanghai, China.
The Pb-monitoring program was extended for 6 years from 2002 to 2007 at 17 representative urban sites (6 traffic, 5 industrial, and 6 residential sites), and 3 suburban sites to assess the lead pollution in fine particulate matter (PM2.5) after phasing out leaded gasoline in Shanghai. Compared with Pb levels reported in other places, the Pb pollution in Shanghai is still serious after phasing o...
متن کاملTreatment of mesothelioma in Bloemfontein, South Africa.
OBJECTIVE Two different surgical methods for treating mesothelioma (pleurectomy and pleuro pneumonectomy) were reviewed. METHODS This was a retrospective study from 1976 to 2001. Forty-six patients, aged 35-80 years, received one of the following procedures: pleurectomy (n=29), or pleuro pneumonectomy (n=17). Pleurectomy was indicated in symptomatic patients with pain or pleural effusion whil...
متن کاملCarbon in Atmospheric Particulate Matter
Carbon compounds account for a large fraction of airborne particulate matter (‘carbonaceous aerosols’). Their presence raises a number of scientific questions dealing with climate issues and possible effects on human health. This review describes the current state of knowledge with respect to the ambient concentrations levels (elemental carbon, organic carbon and organic matter) and the various...
متن کاملHouse-dust mite species in Bloemfontein, South Africa.
UNLABELLED House-dust mites (HDMs) are an important source of allergens that are reputed to act as a trigger for atopic disease. Climatic conditions in parts of South Africa are not suitable for their proliferation, and there is doubt whether they occur on the Highveld. We studied whether HDMs occur in homes in Bloemfontein, Free State. METHODS Ten houses were sampled over a 1-year period. Du...
متن کاملLevels of Fine Particulate Matter Bound Trace Metals in Air of Glass Industrial Area; Firozabad
The present study deals with sequential extraction of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) bound trace metals in an industrial area of Firozabad, India. During the study period, daily PM2.5 concentration ranged between 73.49 μg/m3 and 113.26 μg/m3 with poor air quality index of 196.37. In the present study, Ca recorded the highest while Co had the lowest concentration among all analysed metals. Mn, ...
